keeping things casual: xx2i bahamas1 review

Disclaimer: I received a pair of XX2i Bahamas1 to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again – I'm a sunglass(es?) hoarder. I can't get enough. I need a pair in my car, in my husband's car, in my purse... everywhere. I have extremely sensitive eyes and wear them just about anytime I'm outside. Except for maybe at night, because I'm not cool enough for that ;) haha, but really, I wear them until that sun goes down. Cloudy? Raining? Snowing? You'll still find me wearing sunglasses, otherwise, I'm headed to headache city. And crows eyes from squinting... and no on wants that. I'll also add that my eye doctor told me to always wear sunglasses or a hat when I got outside. I don't know if she tells everyone that, or having blue eyes, or one of my weird eye problems is why, but I wouldn't dare go against doctors orders.

Worked for short runs in the summer. I personally need the performance pairs for longer,
because I sweat so dang much, but I know plenty of folks that could wear these.

This time around, I got to test another XX2i casual style – the Bahamas1. I think this might be my favorite pair, or at least, the best fitting pair (for my smaller face). I wear the Bermuda1 all the time, and you might remember that I lost the Brazil1 in Mexico (when I tried to go into the ocean, but the ocean took me down, while wearing my sunglasses, because I was all 'I'm not going to go all the way in, so I can keep them on'. Womp Womp). Lucky for me, XX2i has AMAZING customer service, and they hooked me up with a new pair.

Waiting for me when I got home from California.

Anyway, I'd say the fit for the Bahamas1 is smaller and more rectangle in the lense area. It can be hard to tell online how they fit and what the difference between them are. Bermuda1 are the largest – bigger lenses, and use up more face real estate. Brazil1 are the next biggest, but a little smaller. I find the Bermuda1 are more round and the Brazil1 have more 'sharp' edges, and then the Bahamas1 are a bit smaller and rectangular vs round. If that all makes sense. It's a little hard to explain, so here are some photos of me wearing them so you can compare.

Oh, I should also mention my color choice. I went with the black and white frame, since I already have a tortoise (Bermuda1) and crystal black (Brazil1), so figured I'd mix it up. The black matte is a really nice frame option, which is what I originally tested the Brazil1 in, but I personally prefer shiny things haha. The white/black are more matte than glossy/shiny, but don't begrudge me a chance to love on this 'shiny' gif below, and hopefully, that song is now in your head because it's awesome :)

Source.

I've been wearing the Bahamas1 sunglasses for all of my errands, walks, and even a few short runs (4 milers). They are AWESOME. When I go grocery shopping, I tend to leave on my sunglasses when I head inside, because even walking from my car to indoors, I need that protection. Then I just put them on the top of my head and forget about them until I leave. Anyway, a lot of sunglasses will fall off my head if I bent down or tilted my head down to read ingredients or when I'm moving around trying to get everything in my cart onto the conveyor belt. The Bahamas1 do not, and it is amazing. They stay perfectly where I place them, and are ready to go when I walk outside. They don't let in extra light that bothers me, and are 100% UVA/UVB protection for my previous eyeballs.

Out for a walk on a very sunny and hot day.

Color options for the Bahamas1 are: crystal black, matte black, or matte white/black all with polar grey lenses, or tortoise with polar brown lenses.

A little bit of information from XX2i website:
XX2i Bahamas1 Casual Sunglasses comes in White/Black with Polar Grey lenses. Using the same advanced materials as XX2i’s performance models, the Bahamas1 comes standard with polarized lenses that employ 8K optical technology, ensuring the utmost frame durability and lens clarity.

FEATURES: Lightweight and durable frame. Polarized lenses with 8K optical technology. Glare cutting polarized lens technology - 100% UVA and UVB Protection.

WARRANTY: Lifetime Warranty! No questions asked, you break or scratch them, send them back to be replaced for a nominal shipping and handling fee!

RETURN POLICY: 365 Days! We know it may take some time to try on and get comfortable with a pair of sunglasses bought online so that's why we give you a full year to do so! That's right, take up to 365 days to determine if you want to keep them and if not, send them back for a full refund less any shipping and handling fee.

Do you see that warranty and return policy? That's the sign of a GREAT company. Seriously, they are amazing. "All XX2i sunglasses come with a no questions asked Lifetime Warranty! No matter if your dog chewed on them (which we hear a lot!) or if you drove over them in your SUV, we'll replace them for a nominal shipping and handling fee of $19.95!" Not too shabby.

Bloody Mary and Bahamas1. Beautiful day to be outside.

I also reviewed a few of their performance line: Australia1 (mine were prescription), USA1, France2, and Hawaii1. I mostly wear the USA1 and France2, but when I can't wear my contacts, the Australia1 are awesome. There was a time I couldn't run if I didn't put in my contacts, because I HAVE to wear sunglasses, and I get too sweaty even if I'm just inside on the treadmill to wear my glasses – they just slide down my face – so it's great to have the option. The Hawaii1 were an awesome frame/lense combo, but the arms were a little too wide-set for my smaller face/head that they felt a tad too loose. I was nice enough to let my husband 'borrow' them aka he always runs with them and they fit him perfectly.

I would recommend ANY XX2i product – it's just up to you which frame/lense/color is your style. Today is YOUR lucky day, because I also have a 50% off discount code to share with you (so there isn't an excuse to not get yourself a pair; that's about $30–$50 for a pair of sunglasses depending on which you choose; an amazing deal for such quality products and amazing customer service.... seriously. Have I said that enough yet? It's just too true not to say it often). The code is: xx2irocks for 50% off your purchase. A little tidbit for you: join #BibChat on Tuesday night at 8pm CT with BibRave and sponsor XX2i and you'll have a chance to win a pair of the Bahamas1

hyper pink amazingness: xx2i france 2 review

Disclaimer: I received a pair of XX2i France2 Hyper Pink sunglasses to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

Angie and I sporting our France2 frames at Mardi Gras Chaser 10k.

Are you tired of my reviews for sunglasses? I sure hope not, because I have another one for you! This time it's for XX2i Optics France2. You know how much I love the USA1, so I was excited to try the France2 which I had been eyeing for about a year, but never had the money in my budget for sunglasses when I had a pair I already loved so much. Thanks to BibRave and XX2i, my dream of owning these sunglasses is now a reality – and in the color I had wanted – pink!

I knew these sunglasses were great before receiving them, as one of my best running friends and BAMR Amy had them (also in Pink) and wore them all the time – even for her ultras. If they held up to her 24 hour races (obviously she wouldn't need them for night, but still), then I felt they would be acceptable for me. The main issues with most sunglasses is fit. Is the frame to big that the arms are too wide that I don't get that snug fit (without being too tight)? While I enjoyed the Hawaii1 a lot, as they were very lightweight and comfortable as far as no bounce and they didn't hurt my ears or nose, but they were a little too big for my smaller head size.

Cuties and XX2i France2 sunglasses.

Lucky me – the France2 are perfect. The frame fits well and sits nicely on my ears/nose (the nosepiece is adjustable which is nice – you can fit it easily to your face) and they never bounced. They blocked out the right amount of light and I think they look cool. I feel sort of badass in them, as if I'm channeling my inner Amy.

They were perfect on my 14 miler. Can you tell I like pink?
Pink visor, pink earphones, pink sunglasses haha.

I've worn them for a lot of long runs and they have been awesome. Even when wearing a BUFF® to protect my face, since the frames are open on the bottom, they might fog briefly, but with enough air flow they cleared up quickly, so I never had any issues not being able to see. They never annoyed me – no bouncing, no fogging, not too tight or too big – they were just right ;)

Even wearing a BUFF® to cover my face, the France2 barely fogged up.

Some information about the frames/lenses (from the website):
XX2i France2 Pro Racing Sunglasses comes in Hyper Pink with Blue Flash lenses and Blue temple tips. Included with these frames will be a tank protector case and one microfiber soft carrying bag that can also be used as a cleaning cloth. Features on these sunglasses are perfect for running, cycling, golfing or just about any activity that requires the sunglasses to stay on your face and remain fog free.

FEATURES: interchangeable lenses, adjustable temple tips and adjustable nose pads.

I can tell you first hand that the XX2i customer service is FANTASTIC. It's an amazing company with great, durable, comfortable, high-quality sunglasses that come with a lifetime warranty and a 365 day return policy. I think their warranty and return policy speaks volumes of the type of company they are. They want to make sure you are happy with the product and shows they actually care.

Not a super sunny day for the Lakefront 10 Miler, but it sure was windy,
The France2 helped protect my eyes from the wind/dirt so I could get this race done.

I love all of their frames and that all of them have some fun options in colors. White and black are great, but sometimes I need a little pop of color ;) The France2 come in a variety of frame and lens colors – it was hard to pick a favorite, really. Besides having my eyes on the Pink, I was also considering the crystal green flash lens green tips pair, but since I had wanted the pink for a long time, that's what I chose. I am very happy with them and will continue to wear them for plenty of runs (switching off with the USA1 of course).

16 miles done. France2 sunglasses hold up.

Get a pair (or multiple) of XX2i using code 'marchbibrave' and you'll receive 50% off. Act fast – the code is only valid through March 28.

I wear my sunglasses at... disney. a review of the xx2i brazil1.

Disclaimer: I received the XX2i Brazil1 to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

XX2i Brazil1 at Epcot Food & Wine Festival. Oh yeah, and me and my mom ;)

I feel the majority of you reading this post already know I have a problem. OK, yes, I have a few, but you know that one of them is my love for ALL the sunglasses. I could never have enough pairs. Seriously. And while I have a ton of freebies I've scored over the years, my favorite brand is XX2i. For both casual and running sunglasses.

Why are they my favorite? Though not free (at least, not all of the pairs I have have been through BibRave), they are quality sunglasses with an excellent guarantee and warranty. XX2i stands by what they make, and you have 365 days to try them out. I have yet to find a pair I needed to return, as they are all amazing. The fit is great and they certainly have lasted longer than any other pair of sunglasses I've owned. I'll admit that one of the reasons I have so many pairs is because I was a frequent scratcher of lenses, breaking off arms, or losing them, so I've sort of hoarded pairs so that when I lose or break a pair, it's not a big deal. Luckily, I've been able to keep most of my XX2i from harm.

Starbucks tastes better with Disney characters on your cup :)

The Brazil1 fit similarly to the Bermuda1 I tried earlier this year, though I'd say they are a bit smaller of a frame and a little more rectangular. I've worn them for runs up to 6 miles and wore them all day, every day at Walt Disney World. They helped protect my sensitive eyes from the bright Florida sun. I even wear sunglasses when it's cloudy and usually on rainy days as well. Gotta protect my baby blues! Haha.

Brazil1 at Animal Kingdom.

Brazil1 at Magic Kingdom. Showing off my shades AND medals.

Each pair of XX2i comes with a hard case and a fabric case (which also doubles as a lense cleaner). It was great to pack my Brazil1 in the hard case and put them in my suitcase without worrying if they would break, and then for the parks I tossed the fabric case in my purse for when I wasn't wearing my glasses to protect them from scratches. I also really like that the Matte Black Brazil1 come with polar grey lenses, while the tortoise comes in brown (so now I have one of each - Bermuda1 tortoise and the Brazil1 black).

Protecting my eyes on a sunny 6 mile run.

Unfortunately, at some point, I scratched my lenses! So sad. I thought at first they were just dirty, so wiped them off and then held them up to the light to see scratches. Boooo. Luckily, XX2i will fix that right up, I just have to pay for shipping (which is $19.95). You can read about their product warranty here.

Starbucks and shades. Remember I said I had a lot of problems?
My Starbucks addicition is another one.

Some specs for the XX2i Brazil1:

  • Lightweight and durable frame
  • Decorated with small silver accents and a keyhold shaped nosepiece (not adjustable)
  • Sleek lines and simplistic
  • Polarized lenses with 8k optical technology
  • Glare cutting polarized lens technology
  • 100% UVA and UVB protection
  • Lifetime warranty - no questions asked (you break or scratch them, send them back to be replaced for a nominal shipping and handling fee)
  • 365 Days to return

xx2i (prescription) australia1 review

Disclaimer: I received the XX2i Australia1 prescription sunglasses to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

I love sunglasses, but not only that, I NEED them when I run outside. All the time. Even on a cloudy day, my sensitive eyes need protection, or I squint and get a headache. Another issue I have? I have bad vision. Which means in order to go outside and run, I always have to put in my contacts so I can wear sunglasses. This is not always a fun task, as when my eyes are tired or sore for whatever reason, contacts don't feel great. In comes XX2i and saves me from this problem. I received the Australia1 Matte Black with polarized grey lenses. Beautiful and not at all the the way I envision a pair of Rx sports sunglasses to look. This style also comes in matte white/black with polar grey lenses or matte tortoise with polar brown lenses.

Wearing the XX2i Australia1 for errands.

The only pair of prescription sunglasses I own are a pair of aviators, which would not hold up well during running. They'd slip and fog - not something I want to be dealing with while on the run.

Tested them out on a walk.

The XX2i Australia1 Rx are AMAZING. It was so great to be able to roll out of bed, brush teeth, get dressed, and go run... and NOT have to include forcing contacts into my eyes before leaving the house. I wore these sunglasses during the Humboldt Park 5k and on multiple training runs, from 6–20 miles. So don't worry, they got a full testing done before I wrote this review. No slipping. No bouncing. No bothers (and I'm easily bothered once I get into the longer runs and close but so far to the finish, minor things get on my nerves and these never did). I always wore a pair of over the ear headphones and then the sunglasses on top, still no issues.

How they fit with my headphones.

Now, with all new prescription glasses, it took a moment to get used to. Different lenses and shapes of glasses means the lenses themselves might be shaped different than what you are used to. I got a new pair of frames/lenses earlier in the year, and those took me a day or two to get used to because of the different shapes in the lenses. Anyway, after 5 minutes in them, I got used to it. It's mainly the peripheral that looks a bit weird, since the lenses curve around your face a bit (and by peripheral, I mean if I look all the way to one side with just my eyeballs). Anyway, the only that I needed to adjust to.

My big fear of wearing Rx lenses for running was that being a different lense than what I'm used to would lead to tripping and/or falling. Luckily, this never happened. I could see clearly and had no issues. Hooray.

I'd say the only 'issue' I had with them was since I'm uber sweaty when running, I had to wipe my face a lot, and often that meant I'd smudge the glasses. This is user error and in no way a problem with the sunglasses themselves. I guess the other thing is when I took them off to clean or dry the nosepiece is that you can't see haha, but again, this isn't really any kind of problem. They'd be off for a second, and I could see clearly enough to wipe down and put them back on.

The only time I dealt with very minor fog issues was on a 7 mile run this week when it was 95% humidity and felt so dang muggy. I know humid and muggy are similar terms, but I think they have different feels, and having both humid and muggy on one run, whoa. Tough to run in, and was the only time the sunglasses fogged up a couple times. Not a ton, just a little, so I would pull them away from my face a smidge to let airflow in and it went away.

Wearing them to drive home.

The Australia1 are XX2i's only performance sunglass featuring an interchangeable temple arm / strap system for intense activities. I personally didn't have to switch them out, as my running isn't that intense haha. I never experienced slipping or them falling off, so I kept the arms as is. The Australia1 also incorporates a removable padded insert for extra protection against the elements. Again, this wasn't necessary in my running conditions, but I do plan on giving that a test come winter time. They are a sturdy and lightweight frame with a unique wraparound style for enhanced peripheral vision. They come standard with polarized lenses that employ 8k optical technology, ensuring the utmost lens clarity and frame durability.

What's super cool about XX2i as a company? How amazing their customer service is. Their sunglasses have a lifetime warranty. No questions asked, you break or scratch them, send them back to be replaced for a nominal shipping and handling fee. They have a 365 day return policy. 365 DAYS! Practically unheard of.

Without prescription, the Australia 1 retail at $124.99. Good news for you - I have a 50% off code to offer you. XX2iRocks. Use it. Fall in love with some amazing sunglasses and a great company.

With each pair I've received a hard carrying case and a soft cloth case (that doubles as a lense wipe).

When leaving the house, I'm always wearing a pair of XX2i. Whether it's the USA1, Australia1, Hawaii1, or the Bermuda1 – they are the perfect sunglasses for just about any need. One other thing I want to note of the Australia1 is that there is not an adjustable nosepiece on them This didn't bother me at all—they fit well, no slipping or adjusting was even needed, but thought I'd let ya know. Each sunglass style has its own features – some have adjustable nosepieces, adjustable temple tips, some have open lenses on the bottoms where others have frames all the way around.

Getting prescription lenses is a bit trickier. You'll need to email your current Rx from your eye doctor to the Rx Manager (jaustin@gorace.pro) along with what frame style you are interested in and what lens color your want. Then you'll be able to discuss the best options. Getting Rx can cost anywhere between $260–$500. Again, you'll learn more after emailing them your choices. Keep in mind that not all Rx can go into the lenses/frames. I know a few other pros wanted to get the Rx but their prescription was too high and wouldn't work with the style. Don't let this deter you from emailing, though, because I thought my Rx would get rejected (I feel my eyesight is very bad), but it didn't. If you're interested, just shoot them an email, tell them a BibRavePro sent you, along with the other infoI mentioned, and talk it through with their Rx Manager.

xx2i hawaii 1 review + discount

Disclaimer: I received a pair of XX2i Hawaii1 to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

Remember when I said I was a sunglass hoarder? Well, add another great pair to the list. This is another active lifestyle pair - for running, cycling, etc. They are a new model in the list of XX2i products and are called Hawaii1. Now I have the Hawaii1, USA1, and Bermuda1.

I think the first thing you'll notice when you put on the Hawaii 1 are how extremely lightweight they are. So much so that you can barely feel them when you're wearing them. Major bonus points for that.

The noticeable difference between the USA1 and the Hawaii1, at least in looks, is that the Hawaii1 doesn't have the frame at the bottom of the lenses, and the arms are thinner. I really like they way they look when they are on. They come in matte white with polar grey lenses, matte black with polar grey lenses, or matte tortoise with polar brown lenses. Unlike most of their other sunglasses, these do not have the option to change lenses (not a big deal to me – I love the polar grey... they look blue and I dig it). The nose piece is adjustable to help fit any face shape for any activity.

It's been summer weather here, with lots of sunny days. If you're read any of my other sunglasses reviews you know that I have sensitive eyes and need sunglasses even on a cloudy day. I squint and get headaches and it's just no good. Plus, wearing contacts, having sunglasses helps protect my eyes from dust, dirt, and whatever weird things are floating in the wind. Also, I have a fear of getting bugs in my eyes, so there's that.

The Hawaii1 are great eye protection. Keeps out the sun and bugs. Again, they are super lightweight so often times you don't even notice them there. I've found for my face size, they fit/stay on best when I tuck them underneath my headphones or visor. Take note that adult sized visors and hats are usually large on me – I'll have them on their smallest possible size and they are still loose. I have been known to wear a child size hat if it's an option. So, if I don't tuck in these sunglasses at all, even after adjusting the nosepiece, I find they are little big for my face. They'll slide a little bit and I'll need to push them back up. It's more of a frame fit than the nosepiece that makes this happen — I think the frames are made for just a little bit bigger face than mine. I know most of the guys testing this particular pair didn't have this issue, so I think it's just my childish head size (it's also why I have a hard time finding regular glasses frames at the eye doctor haha). Anyway, if I keep them tucked in, then no problems at all. And honestly, I'm almost always wearing my headphones and a visor or hat, so it's not much of an issue for me. No bounce, no slide.

Flat Heather for Chicago Spring Half Marathon.

One other thing of note was that without the frame on the bottom of the lenses, there's a bit of space for some sunlight to come through. Not a lot, just a little, and it also depends on how close to your face you wear the sunglasses. I need a little space so that the frames aren't touching my eyelashes, and I don't like them right up against my forehead. This didn't bother me at all, and I liked being able to glance down and easily see the cracks, holes, puddles I'd like to avoid. Sometimes lenses can be too dark and it's harder to see where you are going — makes it easy to trip (not any of my XX2i sunglasses, other brands!).

Chicago Spring Half Marathon.

Some ladies have mentioned hair pulling when taking off their sunglasses. I didn't have this issue with the Hawaii1. Let me tell you my secret. Instead of sliding them onto your head, place them. This means you aren't sliding the rubber temple arms through your hair. You are just putting them on top of it. Take them off the same way. This makes it so your hair is getting caught on the rubber. I'm not sure if my explanation makes sense, so let me know if you need further clarification. I never had any hair come out this way. I don't even think about it, for some reason with sport sunglasses, I've always put them on this way. Unlike my everyday pair that I slide on through my hair. I must have subconsciously learned at some point that anything with the rubber won't work well if I put them on normally.

Flat Heather for United Relay of America Stage 318.

Bright, sunny day in Chicago for the United Relay Group Stage.

I obviously like them, or I wouldn't have worn them during so many runs and races. I've done a half marathon and 10 miler in them + countless training runs of 4+ miles. If they bothered me, I wouldn't be able to race in them, as any little thing that is off/bothersome aggravates me for the entire race. Even the smallest distraction over the course of 13 miles drives me insane (yeah, I'm one of those people). Say, if I had to push them up every few minutes because they were falling down, or take them off because they were fogging a lot. This doesn't happen with XX2i Hawaii1. Give them a try, you won't regret it (and even if you maybe get a style that doesn't work for you, see below for their amazing return policy – try a different style that might fit you better. For anyone with a smaller noggin' like me, I'd suggest a smaller frame).

Summer has hit in Chicago. This means high heat, high humidity, and sun.

XX2i has a lifetime warranty. No questions asked, you break or scratch them, send them back to be replaced for a nominal shipping and handling fee. They also have a 365 day return policy. What does that mean? You can take up to 365 days to determine if you want to keep them and if not, send them back for a full refund less any shipping and handling fee. This is a great return policy, as it can be hard to know when buying something off the internet whether it's going to fit properly or not. Even with something like sunglasses, trying them on in store isn't enough. You need the time to wear them while doing your activity (for me, running), to know if they'll work. It's sort of like your shoes. They might feel great in store for 2 minutes of running, but the real test is when you get them out for long runs (once broken in).
